Primary School: Two meetings were held on Monday to inform parents, staff and members of the village about proposed changes to the Primary School. We are assured that the children will probably be unaware of any changes, but the management structure will alter from the beginning of the new school year, if the proposals are accepted. Two changes have been amalgamated, and the proposal is that the school becomes an academy, and also that its management will be by a joint body including Peasmarsh and Winchelsea schools. The Trust overseeing this change will be the diocese, as all three schools are Church of England Primaries. All the people involved seemed very experienced in their field and optimistic for the future, so I think we are in good hands.

Christian Aid: The annual Coffee Morning which rounds off our Christian Aid collection is on Saturday 10-12 in the Church Centre, alongside the popular Plant Sale at The Byre House all day. If you enjoy taking your pick from the stall opposite the surgery car park throughout the year, you will want to take this opportunity to see the lovely garden and a large choice of excellent plants, all in a good cause.

Pentecost: St Mary’s Church invites everyone to celebrate Pentecost and the completion of the external building work which has made the church sound and ready for decoration. Thanks and rededication will be part of the service at 10.30am, then there will be an Open Afternoon with cream teas and craft activities. If you take your Teddy Bear along, it can “fly” from the church tower on a zip wire! Ending the day, there will be an informal praise service at 5pm.

Jumble Sale: If you didn’t sort out your jumble in time for the Chitiwiri collection, the Village Hall Trust’s next Jumble Sale is on Saturday 30th at 2.30pm. Jumble can be taken to the hall in the morning, or call Marie Edwards (253264) if you need to arrange collection. There will be a Book Sale in the Jenkins Room, so it’s worth a visit.

Garden Safari: On Sunday 31st May, five gardens will be open in aid of the Bonfire Society. Programmes will be on sale at Goddens Gill Green, and all the gardens (and the teas) are within walking distance. It’s such a treat to be able to see what other people do with their garden – and perhaps be inspired. Invite your friends, and have a relaxing day. Gardens are open from 11am until 5pm.

Chitiwiri: £510.60 was raised for Chitiwiri School in Malawi thanks to an amazing amount of bags left with Sally Bickersteth who asks me to pass on many thanks to all who contributed. The money raised will go towards cooking pots, charcoal burners, plates, spoons etc. to equip the kitchen that we have built with previous donations. This will enable the school to provide a feeding programme for the school children during the “hungry months” of January to March.

Garage Sale: Sally and Richard will be holding a Garage Sale on Saturday 6th June in aid of all the projects in Chitiwiri. Any good quality bric-a-brac can be left at Forge House (the old Post Office) - we’re beginning to get into the hang of this! If you need collection or information, call Sally or Richard on 01797 252108 or 07903338614. And make a note of the date to go along and see if you can pick up a bargain!!!

St Mary’s Services: (24th ) 8am Holy Communion, 10.30am Pentecost Celebration, 3pm Open Church, 5pm Pentecost Praise
