Conservation Society: John Fenton will be speaking at the Conservation Society’s AGM this evening (Friday) in the Village Hall. His topic is Conserving Precious Water – Transforming Lifestyles and is relevant not only globally, but closer to our hearts when we think of Chitiwiri. The Society is an active participant in village affairs and does so much to conserve what we most treasure about Northiam. If you are interested in joining, do go along to the meeting or give Mervyn Hayes a call (253443). There will be wine, soft drinks and nibbles to make the business part fly by!

St Michael’s: The big Coffee Morning in aid of St Michael’s Hospice will be held in the Village Hall on Saturday. Eileen Hayes and her small team have put a lot of effort into making this a grand fundraiser for this essential and well-loved charity, and everyone is invited to come along and enjoy! There will be a great Cake Stall, Crafts made by Northiam ladies, an Amazing Raffle, gifts, cards and bric-a-brac. 10am – 12noon, Saturday 16th May.

Primary School: On Monday, there will be a couple of meetings regarding the proposed change for Northiam Primary School to Academy status – parents are invited at 2.15pm, and there will be a public meeting at 6.30pm, both in the Pretious Sports Hall.

Reporting back: Last weekend we had a good turn-out for lighting the beacon to commemorate VE Day, some fabulous plants to enliven our gardens at the Horticultural Society’s Plant Sale – a phenomenal amount of hard work just getting them on display in the Hall, let alone growing them all!!

The Bonfire Society’s Quiz was the biggest one yet, and a great success – oh did I mention we won? Sadly, it was Northenders’ last outing, but we hope to see members of the team under a different livery for future quizzes in the village – it won’t be the same without them! Many, many thanks to Colin at Rother Valley Brewery and Nigel at the Spar for their continued generosity in supporting Bonfire events.

Coming Soon: Next Friday (22nd) there will be a Plant Sale held by Friary Gardeners on Battle Abbey Green, and Day Lewis Pharmacy has promised to double any money taken. The Christian Aid Coffee Morning, with the popular Plant Sale at The Byre House will be on 23rd, St Mary’s is inviting everyone to a cream tea to celebrate Pentecost and the completion of the restoration project on 24th, and the Bonfire Society’s Garden Safari will be on 31st!

St Mary’s Services: (17th ) 8am Holy Communion, 10.30am Come Praise
