Today (Friday) is the monthly Village Hall Coffee Morning Market, with varied stalls and popular refreshments. Open between 10am and 12noon.

Badminton clubs meet in the Pretious Sports Hall every Friday at 5.30pm (Juniors) 6.30pm (Secondary) and 8pm (adults).

Now we’ve had a bit of sunshine, we can concentrate on gardens! Everyone is invited to Farthings, a beautiful garden on Main Street, for a Coffee Morning in aid of the NSPCC on Saturday, 1st June. As well as enjoying the garden in all its late spring glory, there will be stalls – bric-a-brac, books, cakes and raffle. Entry is £2.50 and everyone will be very welcome.

Rother Neighbourhood Watch invite you to Brede Village Hall, Cackle Street, Brede, TN31 6DX at 10.30am for 11am on Saturday for the opportunity to meet Katy Bourne, the Sussex Police and Crime Commissioner, together with Charles McIlwrick MBE, Chairman Rother Neighbourhood Watch and Carolyn Randall from Sussex Crimestoppers Learn more about the work of Neighbourhood Watch, Crimestoppers and the PCC in our area and have the opportunity to raise any matters that concern you. Refreshments will be available.

Messy Church meets at 4pm on Sunday, when families will be learning about Moses, with craft, drama and general mayhem. All welcome.

On Monday, Badminton Club meets in the Pretious Sports hall at 5.45pm, and Zumba at 8.15pm. Classical Pilates is in the Village Hall at 6.30pm.

Buzzy Bees, Northiam’s toddler group run by Northiam Nursery, meets every Tuesday at Northiam School between 9.15am and 11.15am, costing £2. New parents wishing to visit the Nursery are welcome at any time, call 01797 252799 or see www.bpnn.co.uk.

The Over 60s will meet in the Village Hall at 2pm on Tuesday.

Wednesday brings us Pilates in the Village Hall at 9am and 10am, Coffee Stop in the Church Centre between 10am and 12 noon, and WI in the Jenkins Room at 2pm. This month, Rupert Matthews will be speaking on the Ghosts of Sussex, and the competition is A Sussex Souvenir. If you are thinking of joining, you are very welcome to a taster session – call Margaret Hinds 01797 253341. Karate is in the Village Hall at 7pm, and Wednesday night is Bingo Night at the Hayes Inn, from 7pm.

Next Friday, June 7, there will be a Drinks and Nibbles Party at 7.30pm at Northiam Nursery, Angie Lewis will be there with her beautiful handmade jewellery to view and buy. All purchases made will raise money for the nursery. All are welcome, please come along and bring your friends!

Northiam Village Hall Trust will be holding another of their popular Book Sales on Saturday June 8 from 10.30am.

Rother Levels Conservative Association will be holding a Summer Lunch at Sahebs on June 9. Baroness Debbie Stedman-Scott of Rolvenden will be speaking about her employment charity Tomorrow’s People supporting young people in isolated rural areas to find work. On Tuesday June 11, there will be an open exhibition of the plans for the development of the Donsmead site 2-9pm in the Village Hall.

The Bonfire Society will be holding a Garden Safari on Sunday 16th June when a selection of private gardens will be open for the first time, so keep the date free – it’s Father’s Day, so an easy treat already organised for you!

The Rye and District Association of the National Trust are holding a summer picnic at Smallhythe Place on Saturday June 22, from 5pm followed at 6pm by a performance in the Barn Theatre of Celebrating Shakespeare’, a light hearted romp with the bard devised and directed by Peter Mould. It promises to be an amusing and entertaining event. Tickets are £12 and must be ordered from Ros Adkins by calling 01797 253763. They can also be purchased at Smallhythe Place reception desk prior to the event. As numbers are limited it is important to get your order in now.

The Historical and Literary Society invite you to a special Summer Lecture, when international storyteller Dave Arthur presents I Remember When.. an evening of folk tales, songs and music from Sussex and Kent at the Barn Theatre, Smallhythe Place on Friday 19th July at 7.30pm. Tickets are £13 for members, £15 for non-members, including wine and nibbles and are available from Michael Clark 01797 253428.

The Iden & Frewen Educational Foundation will be considering applications for grants at their next meeting on June 24th. Cash grants are available for educational purposes to residents of Northiam who are under 25 years of age, undertaking further or higher education, an apprenticeship or equivalent, or sporting activities at county level.
