Northiam

• The Village Hall Trust are holding a Jumble Sale on Saturday April 13 at 2.30pm. Jumble can be taken to the Hall between 10am and 12noon.

• The Over 60s will enjoy a talk from Noe Varley, a boat builder, at their meeting on Tuesday, starting at 2pm in the Village Hall.

• The Annual Village Meeting will be held in the Village Hall on Tuesday April 16 from 7.30pm. It’s well worth popping in on your way back from work to find out what is going on in Northiam – more than you would think! Every Society takes a table to tell you about themselves, and you might find just what you’ve been looking for.

• Coffee Stop will be brewing in the Church Centre between 10am and noon on Wednesday – all very welcome, and either PC Collins or PCSO Becky Unicombe will be there from 11am to chat about any issues relevant to the police.

• The Regency Singers will be entertaining the Thursday Seniors’ Club this week.

• The Rye and District Association of the National Trust will be holding their last talk of the season on Thursday, when Heather Woodward speaks on Tales of Beatrix Potter in Beckley Village Hall commencing at 2.30pm. The fee of £2 for members and £3 for non-members includes refreshments after the talk.

Next Saturday is a busy day, with a craft fair in Northiam Village Hall, run by the Bonfire Society from 10am to 2pm, with a range of very interesting stalls from soap to fine art with everything in between. Free entry, but you might like a go on the tombola, or stop for tea and cake.

•Also on April 20, we are thrilled to have David Ruddock return with a concert entitled Piano Plus – a history of the keyboard, which will see him change from harpsichord to organ to piano with a variety of musical styles. Tickets are on sale at Will’s Bakery £10 - £8 concessions. Piano Plus will include music by JS Bach, Beethoven and the Beatles, by way of Chopin’s Scherzo in B flat minor on the piano, Handel’s’ Harmonious

Blacksmith on the harpsichord, and the famous Widor ‘Toccata’ on the organ. The most substantial work will be Beethoven’s ‘Les Adieux’ sonata, No. 26. Music on the lighter side will include Dizzy Fingers’ by Zez Confrey, considered to be one of the fastest and most challenging Rags ever written, the jazz age Song Transcription by Gershwin and Paul McCartney’s Yesterday, so there really is something for everyone.

• And April 27 is equally exciting - Northiam Nursery and Beckley Pre-school are holding a Spring Fair 11am – 3pm at Northiam Nursery school field (indoors if wet), with pony rides, bouncy castle, Peppa Pig, live music, barbecue, barrow of booze raffle. Fun for all the family.

• In the evening is the first chance to enjoy Showtimers’ The Fab 50s andSwinging 60s Show. All the great family fun we have come to expect from Showtimers. Tickets will be on sale at the Village meeting or phone 01797 252395. Or go hi-tech at www.ticketsource.co.uk/showtimers. Doors open at 7pm, with curtain up at 7.45pm. If you can’t make 27th, there are further performances on Friday 3rd and Saturday May 4. Come along and support local talent by having a really good night out. There will be a

licensed bar and complimentary refreshments.
