The badminton clubs meet in the Pretious Sports Hall on Fridays. 5.30pm for Primary school-age, 6.30pm for Secondary school-age, and the adult club starts at 8pm. Dance Club meets in the Village Hall at 7.30pm for Sequence Dancing.

The pre-Christmas season is up and running and there are many local charities offering Christmas Fairs to help with your present ideas. On Saturday (10th) the Blue Cross’ pre-festive day includes mulled wine and mince pies, Christmas cards, calendars and diaries, stocking fillers, gift ideas and a lucky dip. Eric the donkey, who lives in Biddenden, will be coming. I am told that he is getting on in years, but does so enjoy meeting people at local events!

In the Village Hall, there will be a wide selection of books on sale, along with puzzles and children’s games. Northiam Village Hall Trust’s Book Sale will be open between 10.30am and 1pm.

This year, Remembrance Day falls on Sunday, so the Service of Remembrance will start in St Mary’s Church at 10.15am, moving to the War Memorial on the Village Green for the Act of Remembrance at 11am.

his month’s Willing Fingers will be on Monday 12th November at 2pm, when the group will be making a Christmas decoration. There will be some Christmassy fabric available (shades of red and green), but if your colour schemes are different you are welcome to bring your own fabric. If you have any beads or sequins for decoration then please bring those too, along with your sewing kit of course! Jean Brown would like to know if you are coming to the members’ lunch.

Geoffrey Mead will be speaking at the Historical and Literary Society on Tuesday. The meeting starts at 7.30pm, and the talk is on Camber East of Rye. Non-members are welcome at a cost of £2 (although you may wish to join and enjoy all the lectures for the season).

Coffee Stop opens the doors of the Church Centre each Wednesday between 10am and midday for a cuppa and a chat. This week PCSO Becky Unicombe will be calling in to see if anyone has any issu es they would like to raise.

The WI will be holding their AGM in the Jenkins Room of the Village Hall at 1.30pm on Wednesday, with the usual raffle and the competition – a poppy related item.

The Line Dancing Group has extended its sessions, and there is now one in the Church Centre on a Wednesday afternoons 1-3pm. This will be for all levels, so if you fancy a go, why not pop along or call Helen (252087). No special clothing is required, just comfortable shoes and a drink.

The Thursday Seniors will be taking a trip to Jempsons for a bit of retail therapy and a nice lunch, whilst we use the Village Hall as a Polling Station for the Police Commissioner.

Next Friday (16th), Rye and District Association of the National Trust will enjoy a presentation by Alan Stainsby – Bodiam banquet, Medieval Food. The meeting starts at 2.30pm in Beckley Village Hall. The entrance fee of £2 (members) and £3 (non-members) includes refreshments after the talk. There will be a shopping trip to Bluewater on Monday 19th November – contact Ros Adkins (253763) for more details and to book.

You can help our school by donating clothes, shoes, old mobile phones and inkjet cartridges. In the run up to Christmas, when you clear out those cupboards and drawers of unwanted belongings, bring them down to the school. There will be boxes in reception for you to leave your donations.

The Iden and Frewen Educational Foundation will be considering applications for grants from young people from the village who are undertaking further or higher education, an apprenticeship or equivalent or sporting activities at county level. The Trustees meet on Monday 26th November, so if you know anyone under 25 who fulfils the requirements, get them to contact the Clerk for an application form (01797 253254).

There will be a Christmas Fayre in the Village Hall on Saturday 17th November, a meeting to set up Northiam Bonfire Society in the Muddy Duck on Wednesday 21st November at 7pm, St Michaels’ Hospice Coffee Morning and Sale on Saturday 24th November in the Village Hall, a Christmas Art Show featuring Artists of the Rother Valley in the Muddy Duck on 24th and 25th November, and a Grand Quiz Evening from the WI and Bonfire Society on Saturday 1st December in the Village Hall.
