Tortoiseshell moggy Catnip had somehow become trapped in a car engine, possibly after climbing in to keep warm.

When she was found, Catnip had some painful burns on the back of her neck and one of her ears from the hot engine parts and was taken to a vet by her finder.

After receiving treatment for her injuries, Catnip was taken to the Blue Cross rehoming centre in St Francis Fields.

Her burns are now healing well and the curious stray is hoping she will soon find a happy new home.

Karla Haines, rehoming supervisor at Northiam Blue Cross, said: “Cats do have a habit of climbing into small, warm spaces – Catnip was unlucky that the space she chose was a car engine.

“But happily she was found before any more damage was done and she’s recovered really well.

“Her experience doesn’t seem to have affected her too much and she’s a very friendly, loving cat who will make lovely pet for someone.”

Catnip is about four years old and is ready to find a happy new home after her ordeal.

“She would like to find a home where she is the only pet, but might like to live with school age children if they get on well when introduced,” said a Blue Cross spokesman.
