St Michael’s Hospice are having a Garden Party at Merriments today (Friday) 2-5pm. Entry £5. Dance Club meets in the Village Hall at 7.30pm this evening with Badminton Club at 8pm in the Pretious Sports Hall.

It’s the Rye Show on Saturday (18th) at Salts Farm, East Guldeford, all in aid of Rye, Winchelsea & District Memorial Hospital, with Horse Show, Dog Show, Classic Cars and Country Fair Displays. Entry is just £5 per car – follow the signs along the Camber Road.

There will be a Budgerigar Society Show in the Village Hall on Sunday.

Northiam Bowling Club would like to show you how to enjoy Bowls. Just come along to the Bowling Green, off the Playing Fields on a Monday, between 5.30pm and 7pm, and a coach will show you how to do it. All you need are some flat soled shoes. All ages very welcome. Zumba classes are at 8.15pm in the Pretious Sports Hall.

The Footpath Group move indoors this week, for the Fish and Chip Supper in the Village Hall from 6.30pm on Tuesday – booked places only, I’m afraid. There will be a table quiz and Grand Raffle.

Coffee Stop is open each Wednesday from 10am until noon, for coffee and a chat in the Church Centre (opposite Douglas Moloney).

The Thursday Seniors’ Club will be entertained by Carol May this week, and the Citizens Advice Bureau will be available from 10am until 12 noon at the rear of the Village Hall.

There’s lots to look forward to when we hit September – odd that September always seems to be a fresh start, even years after a new school year ceases to be relevant!

The famous Pink Pig Day will be held at Northiam Scout HQ on Saturday 8th September with all the fun of the fair, in the capable hands of our Scouting Group.

The Blue Cross will be holding an Open Day and Fun Dog Show on Sunday 9th September from 10am until 4pm. Registration for the Dog Show will be from 9.30am, at £1.50 per class. There will also be alpacas to see, a Gun Dog Scurry, Agility Demonstration, Raffle, Pimms & other refreshments, Cake Stall, Trade stands etc.

The Conservation Society join with Great Dixter to celebrate the opening of the Great medieval Barn and the Society’s 25th Anniversary on Saturday 22nd September 6pm-9m. Admission will be by ticket only, available from Mervyn Hayes at Rose Cottage, Dixter Road – 253443. £5 includes cheese and wine, music by Northiam Chamber Orchestra and access to the grounds, and, of course, the restored Barn and Oast.

And Northiam Chamber Orchestra are back, by popular demand, for a celebration of Harvest in St Mary’s Church on Saturday 29th September when they will be part of an evening of poetry, prose and music to celebrate the farming year.

Angela is considering doing the sponsored cycle for the Historic Churches Trust on 8th September when half the money raised will go to St Mary’s.
