Nursing home folk led to safety

FOUR people were led to other parts of the building when smoke from a faulty extractor fan set off alarms at a nursing home.

Two fire crews attended the Sandhurst Nursing Home in Barnhorn Road at 3.40am yesterday.

They found that an extractor fan in a first floor bathroom was giving off smoke.

Staff had already escorted three residents away from the affected area.

A fourth had to be awakened. An ambulance was called as a precaution but it was thought that the patient was under medication.

Firefighters under Leading Firefighter Martin Walker quickly dealt with the fan with a hosereel and used a positive pressure ventilation fan to clear the smoke.
