The Observer contacted the mobile company after Vodafone and O2 customers reported problems in the town.

An O2 spokeswoman said this evening (October 16): “Having spoken to our network team, they confirmed that the site was undergoing some upgrade work in preparation for launching 4G in Selsey town.

“There will be further testing of the equipment over the next few weeks before 4G is fully accessible to O2 customers in the area.”

She said the superfast service would allow its customers to stream high-definition television, experience high-quality video calling and allow people to work remotely.

“I can confirm that the site is now back in full service and apologise for any inconvenience caused,” she said.

The Observer contacted Vodafone about the poor signal and received the following response on October 14: “We’re sorry some of our customers in Selsey have experienced signal issues this week. A local mast is undergoing some planned work but we should have the site up and running as normal early this evening.”

However, after several people said this was more of an ongoing problem for Vodafone, the Observer contacted the company again but is yet to receive a response.
