Tributes paid to ‘brave’ Angmering councillor Julie

Julie, who represented Angmering for around a decade, had been battling against ill health for several years. She died at Worthing Hospital when her health suddenly deteriorated.

Angmering parish councillor Pat Turner was being treated in hospital in the bed beside Julie. She was released on Monday of last week, days before Julie’s death.

“She was a very brave person,” Pat said. “She always did what she felt was right for the village. I will always admire her for that. She was an incredible woman.”

Julie, who lived in Bewley Road, was first elected to the district council in 2003 and was re-elected in 2007 and 2011.

Fellow Angmering councillor Dudley Wensley, Arun’s cabinet member for corporate governance and a family friend, said: “Julie had a great spirit and was a very determined lady who worked exceptionally hard for the people of Angmering. She was a conscientious and energetic ward councillor who served the public with passion and enthusiasm for many years. I know residents will feel her loss.

“She made a notable contribution to the community and to civic life in Arun. She will be missed by many people.”

Julie was a member of Arun’s development control committee, environmental services and community development working groups and chairman of the electoral review sub-committee.

A widow, she leaves two sons.
