THIS weekend’s Mutiny Festival has come under plenty of fire from angry Fontwell residents, but many Observer readers have taken to our Facebook page to voice their support for the event.

Up to 15,000 revellers are set to descend on Fontwell Park Racecourse for the three-day festival, which starts on Thursday and sees American rapper Snoop Dogg headline on Saturday night.

It has sparked outrage amongst many neighbouring residents, and around 80 people attended a residents’ meeting at the racecourse last Friday with concerns over noise levels, parking and what they see as the potential for antisocial behaviour.

Following our story a number of people have commented on the Observer Facebook page, with the vast majority in favour of the event.

Jade Reynolds posted: “How is it different from any other event held in fontwell? Why is Chichester area so scared of putting on music events/festivals etc..?

“Give the people somewhere to go. People just want to have a nice time. After all there’s no Thursday’s any more either!! Get with the times people come on...”

Kimothy Thommo added: “Can’t wait!! Other towns and villages hold festivals and get on with it, so why not.

“Mutiny have also supplied transport and free transport, so people will not be hanging around. Most festivals do not arrange this. I personally hope it’s one of many festivals bought to Chi!”

Kate Holt said: “Why bother days ahead of it landing? Why did they not kick off months ago when this was initially announced!

“Everyone knows about it, it’s actually exciting our area has the opportunity to host something as exciting as this. Get a grip!”

Patricia Delosrios also said: “If people read their local paper, went to council meetings, read notice boards and so on, they would know what’s happening.

“It’s only two days. Coaches are being laid on etc etc. It is being run by professionals. Have fun x aged 68 !!!!”

But Ryan Morison said: “It’s just a bad place for it to be. The roads won’t handle the amount of people and we all know a lot will park outside people’s homes and cause hell for residents.”

Other artists on the bill include Knife Party, Chase and Status, Katy B and Gorgon City.
