Octogenarian rallies troops for charity

On Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 September, David Owen, 83, from Steyning, has volunteered to organise a team to collect donations.

David would love our community’s support in making this an event to remember and is asking for bucket collectors to volunteer to join him outside the store to help raise as much as possible to support our wounded heroes.

Tesco’s branch in Shoreham is sited just outside the town in the well known Holmbush Centre.

Other stores nearby include Next, Marks & Spencer and MacDonald’s.

David has so far raised more than £100,000 for the charity in order to helpwounded Servicemen and Servicewomen.

He said because he was in the autumn of his life, he could help those who were in the spring of theirs and have all their lives ahead of them.

“What is a weekend’s work to us compared to a lifetime of change for them?” he said.

To help him over the weekend his friend, Chris Twiselton, will attempt to run 30 miles on a treadmill.
