Official opening of hospice shop

The new St Michael's Hospice shop in Devonshire Road was this week officially opened by Town Mayor Councillor Patrick Douart.

"It is always a pleasure to open a new shop in Bexhill when so many are closing," he commented.

"We wish you every success in raising funds for such a worthy charity."

Volunteers and shoppers gathered outside the shop for the ceremony which was also attended by the Mayoress, Patrick's wife Maureen, and Perdita Chamberlain and Chris Jones representing St Michael's Hospice, and featured an hiliarious appearance by Charlie The Clown who kept passers-by amused all morning.

Stuart Earl, recently appointed to the hospice board of managers, told them: "We are so grateful to every one of the volunteers who work not only in this shop but also in the other premises. We are grateful for the support of the public of Bexhill, Hastings, Rye and Battle, who give to our hospice.

"It means so much to so many people."

Perdita, head of fundraising and marketing, said: "St Michael's Hospice is delighted to open our new shop in Bexhill. The support that our volunteers have shown in establishing this shop - in refurbishment, redecoration and refitting - has been incredible.

"Our thanks go to Tom Dadswell, Kath Erends, and Julie Cham, and all the other volunteers who have given so freely of their time."
