Ofsted's outstanding report for North Bersted pre-school

Outstanding was an education inspector's verdict on a North Bersted pre-school.

Jacqueline Lawson said Little Acorns provided a consistently high standard of care for the children looked after there.

"The staff have an excellent understanding of how young children learn and provide exciting and stimulating activities every morning to ensure that learning is interesting and fun," she commented.

The outcome of her inspection in late January has delighted the pre-school's manager, Christine Garmendia.

The latest inspection was the second since Little Acorns opened at Bartons Infant School in Romney Boardwalk in 2005. It is registered for up to 26 children at any time and has 33 two to five-year-olds on its roll.

Ms Lawson stated: "The children are friendly and confident and there is a buzz of activity in the nursery room where busy children share and discuss.

"The outside space provides a wonderful environment for learning, with many of the indoor activities extended outdoors."

She added that Mrs Garmendia had brought in outstanding systems to monitor and evaluate the provision at the pre-school. Parents were also kept exceptionally well-informed.

Just two small steps were recommended by Ms Lawson.

These were to unify procedures on assessment to improve the flow of information between the nursery and the school and to provide more shade in the garden.
