Older People’s Day celebrated in Meridian area

The Meridian Mature Citizens Forum will celebrate Older People’s Day with three events across the Meridian area.

The Over 50s Road Show will take place on Tuesday October 1 at the Hillcrest Centre in Hillcrest Road, Newhaven, from 10am to 12.30pm.

It will feature a variety of information stalls including health, social care and housing, as well as local groups, clubs and East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service. The event is free.

The next event celebrating Older People’s Day will be a cream tea.

It will be staged at Downlands Court in Roundhay Avenue, Peacehaven on Monday September 30.

It will also include entertainment from the University of the Third Age Singing for Fun group at 2.40pm in the restaurant.

Tickets cost £2. For catering purposes organisers are asking people to pay in advance.

Tickets are available from the Downlands office. Downlands Court has 41 one and two-bedroom apartments for people aged 60 and over who need care and support to live independently.

To finish the celebrations there will be an illustrated talk on Monday October 7 at Piddinghoe Village Hall called Bringing Village Archives to Life from 2pm to 4pm.

Julia from Brighton University will present the Peacehaven Pioneer Project demonstrating the importance of local unpublished records that bring the past alive.

This free event includes tea and cake.
