Olympic dance wows crowds in Littlehampton

Year-two pupils from schools throughout Littlehampton, Arundel, Rustington and Climping took part in a dance show at The Littlehampton Academy to tell the tale of this year’s, international, sporting event.

Teams of youngsters, from nine of the area’s primary schools, worked tirelessly for 12 weeks on a dance routine related to a specific Olympic sport, from swimming, tennis, cycling and sailing to rowing, boxing, fencing and football.

Pupils from Lyminster Primary School could have even given the world’s top sprinter, Usain Bolt, a run for his money, with their energetic, athletics-inspired routine.

After groups performed an individual dance to represent each sport, the children came together to take part in the dramatic, closing ceremony.

Littlehampton’s deputy mayor Emma Neno was the guest of honour during the show and praised all the students for their hard work.

Dance teacher Julie Fox worked with many of the schools to devise their choreography as well as co-ordinating the entire final performance. Other routines were devised by Zumba instructor Dani Heppenstall or the team from Commotion Dance.

Sara Hopkins, of the academy, said: “It was an outstanding team effort. The hall was packed and the audience were so impressed with all of the children.”
