OLYMPIC TORCH 10.30am: Is this Rye or Rio?

WOW! Rye High Street was a sea of smiles as the torch passed by held aloft and followed by a noisy colourful procession with drumming and flag waving.

You could be forgiven for thinking this was Rio rather than Rye as a crowd of around 4,000 people gathered in the picturesque town for a colourful turn-out.

Town Crier Rex Swain commented: “I have never seen anything like it. It is wonderful to see so many happy smiling children.”

A really inspiring atmosphere here, a fantastic community celebration that brought people of all ages together.

The torch procession may be over but the fun will continue here long into the night. Schools will gather for a communal picnic at Rye College and Same Sky theatre arts group have a giant Sky Dome to entertain people tonight
