OLYMPIC TORCH: Tears shed from a proud family for Bexhill’s Josh

GO Josh was the message emblazoned across the banner held proudly aloft by friends and family as the 19-year-old student who was the last runner in Bexhill.

There was not a dry eye among them as Josh Moon ran past flanked by the familiar security guards in grey.

Grandma Jeannie Brooks said: “It made me cry. He just looked so happy and proud. It was the same for all of us. He made the whole family.

“He looked Olympian. This is a piece of history, my grandson is making history and I am so proud.”

The excitement and emotion was thick in the air as the crowd in Dorset Road waited for this final torh bearer of the Bexhill leg.

Among them were pupils from St Richard’s Catholic College, children from St Mary Magdalene Primary School, residents, families and visitors, young and old.

Entertaining them further along in Magdalen Road were members of Julie’s Adult Community Singers who performed the patriotic London Medley by Gareth Malone as they waved their Union Jacks.

As Josh waited for his moment to arrive, dad Simon King said: “I am so proud of him. He has done really well to get there.”
