On the journey to an art trail in Littlehampton

ARTISTS are clubbing together to give the Littlehampton area "a cultural shot in the arm".

A Shoebox Art Fair is to be held at the Windmill Centre on July 26, and it is hoped that it will be the start of bigger things in the local art world.

Painter Euphrosene Labon, of Angmering, said she wanted the event would bring local artists together, to form the nucleus of an open house circuit for next year.

"Every where around us, Worthing, Chichester, Horsham, Arundel, has an arts trail, but we don't.

"Why not? There are lots of artists in the area, and Littlehampton is going through such a revitalisation at the moment, I think this could feed into that perfectly."

She added that she hoped such a trail, where local artists convert their homes to studios and invite the public to see their art, would stimulate the local economy.

"It would be for everyone, but it has to be a communal effort, we need artists to get involved. There is nothing like quality art to perk an area up."

Inspire Leisure and Littlehampton Town Council are both involved in what they hope will be a series of initiatives, to promote the arts.

The fair is open to all artists, from photographers, to painters to jewellery makers, and the only stipulation is that the piece or pieces fit into a "shoebox", which will measure 30cm x 35cm x 46cm. The event will be held between 11am and 4pm.
