Open house & garden raises over £1,000 for charity

A BEXHILL couple's open house and garden raised over a thousand pounds for a local charity on 24th July.

Dee Blake and Colin Chapman threw open the doors of their impressive home in Marina Court Avenue to raise funds for The Sara Lee Trust, which provides complementary therapies, creative arts therapies, sanctuary days and counselling to patients living with Cancer, Motor Neurone Disease and HIV/Aids living in Hastings, Rother and Rye.

Fundraiser for the charity, Maria Gonet, said the event was a great success:

"It was a beautiful day, the sun shone, and people flocked to view the house and garden of this beautiful home which was built by a Maharajah around 1904 and has been stunningly renovated in a modern style.

"We would like to thank Dee and Colin so very much for opening their stunning house and garden on behalf of the Trust, for their fabulous support of our work, and everyone who came along and supported the day."

The couple had hoped to raise 1,000, but Maria said they were "absolutely delighted" to have reached that target, and more, as in total they raised "a wonderful 1,015."

Dee and Colin thanked everyone who supported them with their fundraising, all the local business who displayed posters, and donated raffle prizes, and in particular Toni & Guy, in Eastbourne and Del Maestro of Battle.

The Trust urgently need volunteers to support every aspect of their work.
