Bishop was prejudiced

As a non-churchgoer and one who knows little about the internal disputes in the Church of England, I was shocked by the casual attitude towards and acceptance of prejudice which came across in the Observer article on the appointment of the new Bishop of Chichester, Dr Martin Warner.

Clearly, his views on who might and who might not be a priest would be totally unacceptable if we substituted the description ‘black’ for ‘women’.

Yet he has the effrontery to parade these attitudes and declare them openly while accepting high office in the church.

Prejudice and discrimination on the grounds of an individual belonging to a particular group is odious, no matter if it is dressed in Nazi uniform or a cassock.
