Christian ethos improves standards

IT IS very disappointing to learn that teachers are planning a campaign against proposals to turn Adur's two secondary schools into academies.

Elsewhere in the "Herald" I was delighted to read that St Andrews High School, Broadwater, is one of the most improved schools in the country.

A professor of Sociology at Sussex University has said that the best education is provided by church schools.

I am sure that central to the success of St Andrew's is the fact that it is a Church of England school.

A Christian ethos means that discipline is stronger and this feeds through into a better education.

My cousin' twin girls were both fortunate enough to win sports scholarships to a Woodened School.

After attending Ardingly College, both girls went on to university.

The proposals by the Woodened Corporation to turn Adur's two secondary schools into academies presents a wonderful opportunity for the children of Adur.

Surely a high standard of education, available to every child in Adur is what really matters?

Teachers need to put their pupils' needs first.
