1066 Battle to be brought to life

It has to be good news that Battle Abbey is in line for a £1 million plus cash grant which will be used to transform its visitor experience.

It promises to use new technology which will take people to the very heart of the most famous battle ever to be fought on English soil.

One of the most exciting developments is the fact that people will be able to access the roof of the Abbey gate-tower for the first time ever.

It will afford stunning views over Battle, the battlefield and surrounding countryside.

English Heritage believe it will attract more visitors which will have a knock-on benefit for the town.

This is more important than ever with Rother Council running tourism information services into the ground.

We remember well the thriving tourist information centre in the High Street and for a place like Battle not to have a TIC is absurd and unacceptable.
