Battle Observer Comment

IT is only right that a town with the historic significance of Battle should get a taste of the Olympic Torch action.

Battle may have missed out on the Relay but was still able to take part in an historic moment when the Torch arrive at Battle Abbey on Wednesday morning and there was a great response from local people with more than 500 turning out to witness the momentous occasion.

Local School children were there to share in the moment and see the torch alight.

And with one of the oldest bonfire traditions in Sussex, a burning torch outside Battle Abbey seemed fitting.

STILL on a sporting theme, there was great news for Robertsbridge College and the entire village with a bid to get funding for a new, modern, sports hall finally being awarded funding.

The current gym was built in the 1950’s and is simply not fit for purpose anymore.

Now thanks to substantial grants from Sports England and East Sussex County Council building can get underway on a new facility that the whole community can enjoy.
