Council should show some respect

THERE are those who care passionately about the future of Mountfield and Whatlington Primary School and those who clearly don’t.

From the many people we have spoken to this week East Sussex County Council falls into the latter category.

It appears to us that the way they conducted last week’s meeting at the school was an object lesson in how to antagonise a local community .

For community and church members who have a long-standing involvement in the school to be asked to leave, seems pointless.

Surely they should have been allowed to listen without taking part in the debate.

One lady went to the school herself, as did generations of her family,

She thinks she was treated in a disrespectful and high handed way - we are inclined to agree. These are people who care.”

At first County cited the school’s falling standards yet only a week ago Ofsted said it had improved enough to come out of Special Measures. Now County say it is about cost per pupil due to falling role numbers.

Parents at the meeting were left in no doubt as to what was behind the proposal - as one mum said “It is all about money - it is disgusting.”
