Fantastic Fundraising from Sussex’s Cyclists

On Sunday we held our first ever cycling event and I am pleased to say it was a great success. Around 300 cyclists took to the roads of East Sussex – starting at Bentley Wildfowl and heading up through the Ashdown forest before heading down to Horam, Chiddingly and Laughton.

The atmosphere was fantastic; each rider was cheered in by our fabulous volunteers and there was a real sense of pride and achievement by everyone involved.

Of course, events like these also have a serious side and we are expecting to have raised £35,000 from the ride. This is an amazing amount – enough to pay all care costs at the house and out in the community for 5 whole days.

Those days could mean a break for parents from the round-the clock responsibilities of caring for a life-limited child. They could mean a sibling gets to meet up with others in their position to let off steam and not feel so alone. Or it could mean that a family get to say goodbye to their child in a way and in a place of their choosing.

So, from everyone here at Chestnut Tree House I would like to say a massive thank you to everybody who took part in the inaugural Chestnut Sussex 100 – you really have made a difference to a local life-limited child. We look forward to seeing you next year!
