This year has been busier than ever for Chestnut Tree with an increase in demand for our services right across the county, but particularly in East Sussex.

Our teams in these areas are expanding to keep up with this demand and we currently have vacancies for Senior Staff Nurses, Staff Nurses, Care Support Workers and Therapists to work across East Sussex from our Eastbourne office.

Much of the additional demand has been for children with cancer, and while survival rates are increasing, we are supporting many children and families for whom the treatment is not going as well as hoped.

The number of babies being referred to us is also on the increase, as well as other children with very complex conditions who are sadly not going to reach adulthood.

Our nurses have been trained up to meet all of the diverse needs of the babies, children and young people that we care for. Alongside this we also have a new member of our therapy and counselling team – this means we can provide the much-needed support for parents, brothers, sisters, aunties, uncles and grandparents who may often feel unsure as to how to help and what to say when faced such a sad situation. A lot of time is also spent supporting other the teams around the child from health, education and social backgrounds.

I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you Sussex for supporting our activities and allowing us to continue this vital work. Anybody interested in working for us can find out more on our website: chestnut-tree-house.org.uk
