Help young readers in Littlehampton turn a new chapter

VOLUNTEERS are being called upon to help children unlock the magical realms of the literary world.

The Littlehampton Academy is appealing to those with a love of literature to support year-seven students in improving their reading skills during supervised visits to the school.

Those keen to apply would be mentored and supported by library staff, who would offer training and guidance – as well as a refreshing cup of tea every now and then.

Applicants would be helping children aged 11 and 12, who are working hard to improve their skills. Volunteers would need to encourage the youngsters to practise reading aloud.

Arun and Chichester Citizens Advice Bureau, in Anchor Springs, Littlehampton, is looking for an administrator to help arrange the organisation’s day-to-day runnings.

Typical work would include record-keeping, using the photocopier, filing, standing in for reception occasionally, dealing with the post, keeping books up-to-date, making appointments for clients, answering the phone plus any other jobs that may arise from time to time.

Volunteers would need to be computer literate and familiar with Microsoft Word and Excel.

The Youth Hostels Association (YHA) in Littlehampton is seeking for an assistant to support its management team.

Applicants would help to provide a clean environment for young travellers to enjoy.

Useful knowledge about the Littlehampton area is advantageous. The role is very people-focussed and would suite a volunteer who enjoys meeting and interacting with people and helping others get the most out of their hostel experience. Good communication and teamwork skills are vital for this role.

Volunteer Now! is going to be providing an introductory workshop for those keen to become volunteers.

The first workshop in Littlehampton will take place on March 26, between 10am and 1.30pm.
