Hope to cope more easily with a hard winter

THE county council report on how to cope with another harsh winter should it materialise makes encouraging reading.

Hopefully the tighter links between the county and groups such as residents’ associations will help get salt to the areas which don’t tend to receive the attentions of the gritting lorry.

Last year’s situation where the town centre’s pavements were turned into an ice rink through heavy snowfalls must be fresh in a lot of people’s memories - particularly the elderly.

Let’s hope the county council really has learned lessons from last year so the town can cope with ice and snow more easily this year.

Or better yet - may the winter be mild and not too cold.
