HOW can we call God "good" when so many people suffer?

Four basic reasons, I think. First, because in the person of his Son he has shared the pain (not least in Christ's atoning death). Second, because he places his people all over the world and trains them to care for the hurting. Third, because he uses pain (it can make us wiser, more prayerful, and lead us to count our blessings). Fourth, he will send Jesus to end it all and create a new world. These are good things. So how can we not trust him?
