KELLY BROWN: January is just a month when we are confused and slightly deluded

IF YOUR body aches and your head is still slightly fuzzy about what day it is, then rest assured you are not alone. It's January!

It is the month when life apparently returns to normal after the festive break.

And yes, my alarm clock is set, packed lunches are being made, the school run is in full flow and trips to the supermarket are being scheduled in with military precision. But I’m not at all convinced life is back to ‘normal’ just yet.

Exhibit one – the fact my body is now so stiff and achy all I want to do is sink into a hot bath!

This is because I have been to the gym for the first time in three weeks and I feel as though my body is punishing me for eating too much cheese.

And of course going to the gym in January is never a fun experience as the gym and classes are jam-packed with ‘new people’ starting their new fitness regime.

Of course all the gym regulars get annoyed by the mere presence of the newbies and completely forget that we were all new once!

Exhibit two – is the fact I still have calendar confusion and still think it is 2015.

This is completely not helped by the fact the bins’ days have not yet returned to normal and school inset days have confused my fuzzy brain and disrupted my routine.

Exhibit three – this is my amusement at new year resolutions.

January is the month when so many of us start out with the right intentions of eating better, getting out more, being healthier and even setting ambitious ‘must-do’ targets for the year.

But of course so many of us are just kidding ourselves and all these best intentions often fade away as a banana is swapped for a Kitkat as a snack, or the rain and cold means we get into the car instead of walking.

So I declare January to be a month of weirdness – a crossover into normality if you will – until we get into the normality of February.

And the only resolutions I’ll make are to be happy – and practise writing 2016 until it sinks in what year it is!
