KEVIN KING: Thanks for taking the time to read my musings

Here’s a question for you, what did rock and roller Bo Diddley and Apple founder Steve Jobs have in common?

The answer is that they both shared the same last word.

Ahead of their final breaths, they coincidentally uttered the word “wow” to their gathered family and friends.

Thankfully I have no known plans for shuffling off this mortal coil any day soon but I have been pondering what I should write as my final words for this column?

Those who listen to my radio ramblings will know that this week sees a big change in my personal life’s journey as not only is this my final column but I am also leaving the radio station.

Although I had no intention of embarking on this big shift of circumstance, sometimes these decisions are made by events more important than oneself.

And so it is that my poorly old dad needs to be looked after and, after losing my sister earlier this year, it is time for me to step up.

Therefore I would like to dedicate this week’s column to all those brilliant carers who work tirelessly for the benefit of others, whether be their own family members or those amazing members of the community who work in both care homes and as care visitors.

I have been imposing my weekly scribbling upon you for the past couple of years and I would like to thank all those who have read these columns and taken the trouble to tell me that they’ve enjoyed my regular musings.

You are most kind.

But if you weren’t overly keen on the words of this old broadcaster I’m sure that I must have wrapped quite a few portions of fish and chips, so it’s not all bad!

Seriously though, I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone at the paper for allowing me into their publication and everyone at the radio station for letting me loose onto the airwaves.

After many years of the 4am alarm at least that’s one upside to look forward to.

So until the next time... wow!
