Landfill campaign gathering momentum

THE change of venue to a bigger location for a public meeting to discuss landfill proposals at Ashdown Brickworks reflects the strength of feeling against the idea.

Bexhill Against Landfill and Incineration (BALI), along with MP Greg Barker, decided to move the November 6 meeting to Bexhill High School, which is more than adequate to house a large number of people interested in hearing what BALI has to say.

And in the coming months look out for BALI members distributing leaflets.

The group is keen to keep public awareness up on what looks to be a disaster for the whole of Bexhill if the county council goes ahead with the landfill site.

The Bexhill Observer has also agreed to print a questionnaire on the subject after the public meeting has taken place, so keep an eye on your local paper in November.

It's good to see BALI planning ahead in such a way and keeping all the variables in mind while conducting its anti-landfill campaign.

If only the same amount of foresight had been employed a couple of weeks back with the Next Wave exhibition.

Recession: seek advice

IT seems that if we're struggling to make ends meet in the recession, we are reluctant to take advice.

The work of East Sussex Advice Plus, which includes the Citizen's Advice Bureau, shows that help is out there, even if one's problems seem insurmountable.

It can be pretty scary out there at the moment.

East Sussex Advice Plus' message is if you're worred about debt, financial insecurity, repossession or you're about to lose or have lost your job, pick up the phone.

It could save more grief in the long run.
