Meet the board meeting a revelation before Yeovil disaster

That comes from studiously avoiding social media partly because it seems to bring out the worst in people.

We left the meeting in good heart but unfortunately Saturday promptly followed and ruined everything.

The only plus-point from the disastrous single-goal defeat was that there was no sign of the capitulation that occurred at Mansfield.

The team battled right until the final whistle and maybe deserved a point but, on the other hand, if a team dominates proceedings so much and still fails to achieve anything do they actually merit any reward?

The match stats show that Crawley had 22 attempts on goal but failed to get a single one on target.

That statistic is chilling news for the managers but at least shooting can be coached.

There is no way in which quality can be coached and there is precious little of it in Crawley’s current squad.

Despite two loan signings earlier in the week we are nowhere near being able to field a full match day line-up and against Yeovil Mark Yates was able to name only four substitutes.

A professional football club should not be run in this way but money is tight at Broadfield Stadium.

Matters will not be helped by a further fall in the number passing through the turnstiles and it will take a significant improvement in results to reverse that trend.

The visiting fans made all the noise and at times the West Stand had the atmosphere of a morgue.

That obviously doesn’t help the players but they struggled to encourage support.

The day wasn’t helped by another disappointing performance by the referee.

Ben Toner is in his debut season in League Two and it showed.

Yeovil were rougher than Mansfield, as the foul count showed, but they were allowed to get away with it.

Reds obviously need strong refereeing as when the going gets tough they are always out-muscled.

Their performance was not good enough but equally neither was Crawley’s and Reds managed to lose to by far the poorest team they have faced this season. That’s an indication of the extent of their problems.
