Night to Remember midnight walk raises over £76,000

What an amazing night! It all kicked off with an energetic warm up before Eastbourne’s Mayor Elect, Councillor Pat Hearn, set the walkers off at the seafront.

The ladies - many adorned with flashing lights, colourful wigs and tutus – set off to walk four or ten miles to help raise money for the hospice. The atmosphere was absolutely fantastic and there was a real feeling of the women walking together to make every step count for the children and families’ cared for by Chestnut Tree.

It was a sight to behold, standing at the Chocolate stop, which is located at Holywell – about eight miles into the route – and all you could see coming towards you on the promenade was a sea of flashing lights.

This year, the seventh that the walk has been running, raised an incredible £76,520 – enough to pay for 11 days of all the care services offered by Chestnut Tree – both at the hospice and in families’ own homes.

It costs well over £3.5 million every year to provide all our care services, and as we reach more children this figure will increase. Less than 7% of our funding comes from central government so we rely heavily on the money raised from events like the Night to Remember in order to continue to offer our care to the families that need it.
