It seems we are going backwards when it comes to rail transport. Trains are getting shorter and journey times longer.

Everyone seems to agree that good reliable communication and transport links are vital in this day and age.

We need a rail service fit for the 21st century yet we have a situation where trains running through Battle take longer to get to London than the old slam door trains of the 1950’s and Rye has one of the only lines in the country that is single track and not even electrified.

Commuters and rail users need to continue to make their voices heard and push hard to get the rail service that the Rye and Battle area deserves.

There is some good news though on a local level with a community rail partnership achieving great results at Rye Station, including improving the look of the station surroundings and using the station to display artwork by local school and college children.

They deserve our thanks.
