ST BARNABAS: Supporters make a huge difference to peoples' lives

During my working day, I meet many different people. People who want to donate their time to help us, people who are fundraising for us, patients who are staying with us here at the hospice, and family and friends visiting loved ones '“ a wide variety of people, all with an interest in St Barnabas House.

Some days I meet with our patrons or trustees, who are all volunteers.

We are very lucky to be supported by these talented and dedicated people, and we really value their support and knowledge as it means we can keep moving St Barnabas House forward, always striving to provide the best possible service, both at the hospice and in the community through our Hospice at Home team.

The reason for this is because, as a charity, we have to account for every single penny we receive from the public, and make every single penny go as far as it possibly can.

The current annual cost of providing all St Barnabas House care is almost £6million, yet we receive less than a quarter of this from the government.

We are so generously supported by the public, which allows us to continue to provide our services.

That generosity is something I am always astounded by, particularly when we all have so many demands on our purse strings.
