Sussex PCC’s video log: What do young people really think of the police?

That was the question that was answered at the Sussex Youth Commission’s (SYC) ‘Big Conversation’ Conference at the American Express Community Stadium back in September.

The SYC’s 38 members, aged 15 to 25, presented their findings and recommendations to over 150 guests that included Sussex Police & Crime Commissioner Katy Bourne, Chief Constable Giles York and representatives from the voluntary sector, local government, charities and educational establishments involved in children’s and young people’s services across Sussex.

For more than nine months the members were consulting on five priority issues with over 2,000 young people across Sussex. They were finding out what their peers really thought of the police on controversial issues such as stop and search, policing of the night time economy, support for young offenders and improving positive engagement with young people.
