Time to put pedestrians first

High and cracked kerbs, narrow footpaths , steep hills and cobbled streets present particular challenges to the elderly, those with mobility problems and parents with prams and pushchairs.

As if this was not bad enough vehicles are continually ignoring double yellow lines and parking on pavements, forcing people to walk in the road .

Often the vehicles parking on pavements belong to delivery companies serving the town’s businesses.

Rye is already choked with traffic and it is getting worse.

This is an issue that has gone unresolved for far too long and now needs a speedy and effective response.

If it is a case of the town’s business needs or protecting pedestrians, including young children, from serious harm or fatal injury we know which we would choose.

Rye Arts Festival opens this weekend and presents a packed programme of events spanning two whole weeks.
