Too early to make a call on the airport

So how do we feel about having a large regional airport on our doorstep that can handle half a million passengers a year?

Will it bring much needed regeneration as airport bosses predict or blight a sensitive area of Romney Marsh and increase the risk of a nuclear incident?

It is far to early to make an accurate assessment. We still do not know if the current road infrastructure will be able to cope with the increased traffic a larger airport would generate, or with the heavy vehicles needed for its construction.

We cannot yet assess noise levels from larger, low-flying aircraft coming in to land or taking off.

This is not totally new for Lydd - the airport was busier than Gatwick in the 1950’s when people would drive their vehicles on to large planes.

One thing is certain though - this decision has not been made in haste but is a process that has been going on for many years and explored in forensic detail - environmental reports alone would fill a small library.

Now, for the moment, we have to wait and see what the reality of the project brings and hope the Rye area can benefit from any prosperity and regeneration a larger airport succeeds in creating.
