VOLUNTEER: Call made for causes in need of extra helping hands

CHARITIES and good causes that need a helping hand are being urged to sign-up and become part of a volunteering network for the Arun district.

Volunteer Now! is part of Voluntary Action Arun and Chichester and supports a host of good causes looking for a voluntary assistance.

It is now urging charities from across the Littlehampton area to speak to one of the organisation’s team members to find out just how it can help.

Jenny Holmes, Volunteer Now! administrator, said: “We can help your organisation to find enthusiastic and able volunteers in the local community.

“If you are a charity, organisation or community group and you are looking for volunteers, why not get in touch to see how we can help.”

The group uses a national volunteering website www.do-it.org to advertise local opportunities, as well as weekly articles in the in the Gazette and on its social media pages.

Jenny added: “We can advertise opportunities on your behalf, and forward you details of any potential volunteers that register an interest. We also run free introduction to volunteering workshops every three months and will promote your opportunities to any of the attendees who we think might be suitable.

“We are constantly working to improve our visibility in the local community, so advertising your opportunities through Volunteer Now! will enable you to reach an even greater audience of potential volunteers.”

As part of the wider Voluntary Action Arun and Chichester team, the group can also offer organisations advice and guidance on many aspects, including governance, policies and procedures as well as fundraising.

The service can also arrange for more organisations looking for more short-term volunteers.

It can put charities in touch with the SkillShare West Sussex group, who’s website promotes bite-sized volunteering of one to ten days.

“If you need volunteers for a one-off or short-term project, this is the place to come to advertise your opportunity,” said Jenny. “Maybe you need someone to help you design a website, perhaps you could do with someone to take photographs at your events, or maybe you need some help with reviewing your marketing plan or fundraising strategy?

“Whatever your short-term need, registering on SkillShare allows you to find volunteers to meet those requirements.”
