You could volunteer indoors, or get dirty out in the countryside.

Whatever you interests and availability, there will be an opportunity to suit you.

Drivers – Patient Link

Patient Link aims to provide a transport service for patients of the Willow Green Surgery in East Preston who find it difficult to attend appointments at the surgery, hospitals, clinics and health centres.

More volunteer drivers are required to transport patients from home to medical appointments.

Volunteers are rarely called upon more than once per week and can claim a mileage allowance of up to 45p per mile plus any other direct expenses.

You must be over-18, have a clean driving license, and be able to treat patients courteously and with dignity, as many are elderly and need simple assistance.

Keeping residents company – Leonard Cheshire Disability

Leonard Cheshire Disability provides services in support of disabled people in the widest context: care at home, supported living, domiciliary support, day services, rehabilitation and respite care.

They are looking for volunteers to visit some of their residents at St Bridget’s, Rustington, a home providing a range of services for adults with physical disabilities.

Volunteers would be required to keep the residents company, preferably once a week; sharing interests, listening to music, playing games and perhaps some trips out.

Patience and reliability will be needed, and French-speakers and people with basic IT skills would be particularly welcome.

Social fundraiser – Guide Dogs

The Guide Dogs charity provides guide dogs and rehabilitation services for blind and partially-sighted people to enable them to make the best use of their mobility.

This role can be as exciting as you want to make it.

Primarily you will be assisting the local fundraising team in promoting and taking part in a variety of activities to raise money for Guide Dogs.

If you are particularly enthusiastic and want to organise your own standalone or challenge events to raise money, they are happy to help support this.

Tasks might include: street collections on flag days (holding a money bucket and talking to the public), helping on information and merchandise stalls at events such as fetes, and taking collection boxes or envelopes to businesses.

Fun and breaks volunteer – Fun and Breaks (FAB)

Fun and Breaks (FAB) exists to support disabled children and their families by providing regular and reliable short breaks which are stimulating and enjoyable, and to promote positive experiences with new friendships, social activities and supportive relationships with carers.

Volunteers are matched with a disabled child and their family to give them a short break of two hours a week or four hours a fortnight.

Volunteers do a variety of activities with the child while they are in their care.

The coordinator will take care to match your interest and skills with the child.
