Reading buddies – Arundel C of E School

Arundel C of E School would greatly appreciate help from adults from the local community, able to come into school and help children with reading.

Adult volunteer ‘Reading Buddies’ will be paired with children at the school, and work with them to develop their reading.

The children read aloud and their Reading Buddy can help them relate to new words or concepts, instilling a love of books which we hope will stay with the children throughout their lives.

Time commitment to carry out this valuable task can be negotiable.

Speaker scheme – Diabetes UK

Are you a confident public speaker? Do you enjoy meeting new people?

Diabetes UK are currently looking for volunteers to give talks and presentations to raise awareness of diabetes in their local area.

Currently, an estimated 630,000 people have diabetes and don’t know it.

Diabetes is a huge health challenge, which puts people at greater risk of heart disease, blindness and amputations.

Diabetes UK is the largest organisation in the UK working for people with diabetes.

The speaker volunteer scheme is a great way to get involved with diabetes UK and help to raise awareness of diabetes in your local area.

You can arrange your own talks with local groups at times that suit you, as well as give talks to organisations who have asked diabetes UK to give a talk.

Full training is provided and travel expenses will be reimbursed.

Volunteer guide – Look and Sea Centre

Look and Sea aims to provide a first class experience for visitors to and residents of Littlehampton, capitalising on its unique position on the bend of the River Arun.

The centre encompasses a five-storey high viewing tower giving 360 degree views of the river, sea and South Downs; the Littlehampton Experience heritage exhibition offering an educational service for all; and the restaurant with its fine food.

They are looking for adults of any age who are interested in assisting school visits and children’s holiday workshops or acting as a guide for the “Littlehampton Experience” Heritage Exhibition.

Volunteers may offer as little or as much help as they wish and this can vary from time to time according to their personal wishes.

If local history and helping people interests you, then volunteering at the Look and Sea Centre would be an ideal choice.

Collection tin co-ordinator – The Donkey Sanctuary

The Donkey Sanctuary is a worldwide donkey welfare charity; their vision is a world where donkeys and mules live free from suffering and their contribution to humanity is fully valued.

These are new and exciting times for The Donkey Sanctuary’s Community Fundraising Team.

Friendly and enthusiastic volunteers are needed to help collect funds in their local area.

On behalf of The Donkey Sanctuary you will be emptying existing collecting tins, paying in the funds and helping them to source new outlets.

By joining the team you will be able to see first-hand what the Donkey Sanctuary are doing to improve the lives of donkeys and mules.

You will get to meet new people and have the opportunity to make friends with others with similar interests.
