COMPANIONSHIP and an ability to empathise with people are just some of the qualities needed by applicants for a care hospice’s latest volunteer drive.

St Barnabas House hospice, based in Goring, is seeking volunteers to support its community companion scheme – which operates across the Gazette area.

The role would see applicants providing additional, practical support to patients and carers in their own homes.

One of the main aims is to encourage and support independent living which in turn leads to increased well-being. Companions would need to be willing to learn, be reliable and have excellent listening and communication skills. A knowledge of palliative care would help.

Littlehampton’s Citizens Advice Bureaux (CAB) is seeking a new volunteer administrator to join its ranks. They must be flexible and willing to work as part of a team.

The role is varied and interesting, and the volunteer must be IT-literate and familiar with Microsoft Word and Excel.

The job would include typing, record-keeping, dealing with post and other administrative duties.

Young Enterprise West Sussex is urging people with retail knowledge to become businesses advisers to teams of students, aged 14 to 19, who will be running a real company at their school for the next year.

The adviser will need to attend the students’ company’s weekly board meeting and guide the team on how to run their enterprise.

Arun Well-being is urging volunteers to assist with its well-being event, at Hotham Park, Bognor Regis, on October 30.

Link to Hope, in Rustington, is urging creative minds to come forward to help brighten up its store in the village.

The charity is seeking a new volunteer to become a shop assistant.

Roles would include preparing the store’s displays, dealing with customers and assessing stock.

All the work will help towards backing a charity and the people it supports.
