The Angmering Community Centre Association aims to establish, maintain and manage a Community Centre in order to advance education and to provide facilities with the object of improving the conditions of life for those in the area.

They need volunteers to help serve tea, coffee and biscuits on a Wednesday morning from 10.30am until approximately 12.30pm to users of the centre before or after activities.

There are also other opportunities to help if volunteers are interested – such as at centre events and markets.

Speaker scheme – Diabetes UK

Are you a confident public speaker? Do you enjoy meeting new people?

Volunteers are required to give talks and presentations, on behalf of Diabetes UK, to raise awareness of diabetes in the local area.

Currently, an estimated 630,000 people have diabetes and don’t know it.

Diabetes is a huge health challenge, which puts people at greater risk of heart disease, blindness and amputations.

Diabetes UK is the largest organisation in the UK working for people with diabetes.

The speaker volunteer scheme is a great way to get involved with Diabetes UK and help to raise awareness of diabetes in your local area.

You can arrange your own talks with local groups at times that suit you, as well as give talks to organisations who have requested them.

You will need to attend a one day training session and aim to deliver at least one talk every other month.

Timings are flexible to suit the existing commitments of volunteers.

Full training is provided and travel expenses are covered.

Charity shop volunteers – Leonard Cheshire Disability

The charity shop in the gardens of St Bridget’s, in Rustington, opens for two hours each morning (apart from Sunday) and more volunteers are needed to help run it.

It is a small scale venture but helps to raise funds for the home.

The role includes a variety of tasks including sorting donations, keeping the shop tidy and clean, and tallying the daily takings amongst others, so there are always things to do.

You would be part of a volunteering team that keeps the shop running smoothly; lots of enthusiasm, reliability and regular commitment are important.

Bank assistants are also needed to cover for when other people are away.

No specific skills are needed, but a reasonable degree of physical fitness is helpful for limited lifting and handling of goods, together with a friendly, polite and caring nature.

Enable Me works in the local area to raise disability awareness in the community and in the workplace, to help improve the lives of disabled people and to provide opportunities for disabled people to fulfil their potential.

They are looking for new volunteers to join them; do you have some free time on your hands?

They need passionate, enthusiastic people with a willingness to learn to work as part of a small team in delivering disability awareness workshops in schools and workplaces.

If you have an inspirational story to tell and would feel comfortable working with children and presenting in a group setting then they’d love to hear from you.
