VOLUNTEER: Game changers are needed to brighten communities

Albion in the Community (AITC), the charitable arm of Brighton & Hove Albion, is looking for people who have been touched by mental health issues to come forward and be part of its well-being team.

The squad looks to deliver short workshops about mental health to community groups across Sussex in a bid to boost awareness of the condition.

The role will see applicants helping to design short interactive sessions, with each volunteer sharing their story of how they recovered and how they continue to manage their mental health issues. It is hoped that the programme will help lift the stigma surrounding mental health and allow more people to talk openly about the condition.

‘Chatterboxes’ are needed to become the voice for a disabled resident at a Leonard Cheshire-run residential home.

The charity, which runs St Bridgets, in Ilex Close, Rustington, is looking for someone to lend a hand with one of the residents learning to communicate using a new piece of technology.

The resident would like to learn to use his Dynavox communication aid more comprehensively, so he can communicate more easily and give voice to his dreams and feelings.

It is important that everyone is able to express their choices, likes and dislikes. This person cannot verbalise his thoughts; his communication aid makes it possible but to use it effectively, recognition and understanding of the symbols is required, and a volunteer would be able to assist with this.

Full training will be given.

Worthing & District Animal Rescue Service (WADARS) is looking for a community fundraising champion.

The charity receives no Government funding for the work it does rescuing wildlife and re-homing domestic animals and relies totally on donations and legacies from the public

As a fundraising champion, volunteers would work within the community organising events and co-ordinating other volunteers and champions.

Scope West Sussex is looking for a shop worker for its Littlehampton branch, in High Street.

The charity helps disabled children and their families. The role includes arranging store displays, using the till and steaming clothes.
