VOLUNTEER: Range of roles for old hands and new

RECRUITS are being called to join the area’s volunteering masses – whether they are old hands at the role or are keen on helping for the first time.

Volunteer Now! will be hosting its next batch of workshops later this month, which will give those who have never volunteered before the skills and knowledge to do so.

The workshop will be taking place in Littlehampton on September 30, from 10am to 1pm, with the exact location still to be confirmed.

The volunteer opportunities available in the Gazette area this week include:

n The Laurels Day Centre, in Sheep Fold Avenue, Rustington, provides life-changing care for people with a physical, sensory or memory impairment and those with an acquired brain injury.

The centre is looking for a new assistant to provide a range of activities for clients, from cooking, gardening and crafts to learning new computer skills.

Good communication skills and patience is needed.

n Volunteer drivers are needed to help lead the way for blind and partially-sighted people in the Rustington area.

4Sight is appealing for people with spare time on a weekly basis to help people with sight loss get out and about socially.

The charity is looking for car or minibus drivers to come forward and help transport members to and from the club’s meetings and to help with general group activities.

n A pop-in snack bar assistant is needed to help keep hungry bellies at an activity club for the elderly full. The Tamarisk Centre, in Beach Road, Littlehampton, needs a new assistant to help at the snack bar.

The role would see the volunteer brewing cups of tea and coffee, as well as taking lunch orders and delivering them to the table.

Some light washing up work would also be required.

People are needed to help on Monday and Friday afternoons, ideally.

n Volunteers are needed to help keep a number of charity shops in working order.

Cancer Research UK is appealing for people to join as retail assistants and help out at the organisation’s various fundraising stores locally.

Help is required from Mondays to Saturdays.
