West Sussex Young Carers Service is appealing for more drivers to support youngsters in the Littlehampton area.

Many of the children tend to disabled or ill family members and often don’t get much time away from their duties.

However, volunteers with the young carers service can help by offering a transport lifeline.

The role sees them providing a door-to-door service for the carers who may otherwise not be able to get out to social groups.

The programme operates at Ford Open Prison, as well as in jails in Lewes, Ashford and Banstead.

As part of the project, Sussex Pathways conducts a restorative justice scheme designed to get prisoners to realise how their actions have impacted others.

The organisers are now appealing for a restorative justice ‘facilitator’ to conduct face-to-face events between victims and offenders. Good communication skills are needed and ability to commit to four to six hours a week.
