We need joined up rail service

Rye area rail users will have a chance to quiz a boss from Southern at a public meeting next week and there are plenty of issues to talk about.

Not least is the fact that weary commuters arriving at Ashford International from London often have to face a long wait to get a connecting service on to Rye.

It is also wrong that people in Rye cannot enjoy a night out in London to see a show or have a meal and then get back to Rye the same evening.

The last train from Ashford on to Rye is 22.34. We would back the Marshlink Action Group in its call for a later evening train running from Ashford to Rye.

Another issue is speed on the line. Commuters had to face a long winter of discontent a few years back with the line closed for repair work to the Ore Tunnel to take place.

One compensation was the promise of track work carried out at the same time which would increase line speeds. This has yet to happen.

It is high time Southern honoured its promise and carried out some timetable improvements to make life easier for local rail users.
