Will airport help local economy fly?

A larger airport on our doorstep has now become a reality, with work soon to start on expanding the runway at Lydd.

It is uncertain, at present, as to what benefits or potential issues that will bring with it.

There are many things to consider, such as whether the road network in Romney Marsh can cope with the extra traffic generated by increased passengers using the airport and the noise generated by larger aircraft taking off and landing.

One thing we are certain of is that the whole process has been exhaustive in looking at everything in detail from potential impact on wildlife to the proximity of the extended runway to the nuclear power station at Dungeness. The reports and paperwork would stretch further than the extended runway.

It is our hope that the project, which has already seen millions invested in it, will be the spur for the regeneration the area badly needs, creating new jobs and industry and widening the visitor gateway to 1066 Country.

We would like to wish all our readers a very happy and fulfilling New Year.
